Sex, Lies & Archives: The Search for the Truth

28th November 2005

What are the frauds, forgeries and fakes that have fooled the world and how do you distinguish the truth from the fabricated version? This event will look at hidden treasures and documents that have changed the world and how we perceive our past.

This panel discussion, hosted by the British Library, will formally launch Archives Awareness Campaign 2005/6 - an annual event organised by the National Council on Archives which involves events, talks and other activities amongst 2,000 organisations to celebrate, promote and raise the profile of archives, see http://www.archiveawareness.com/ for further details of events near you.

The discussion will be chaired by Radio 4 broadcaster and author James Naughtie and the panellists will include Dr David Starkey (historian, TV presenter and author). A drinks reception will follow the event and a number of tickets are available to the public free of charge.

Before the discussion begins, the actors Paul Bigley and Joanna David will read a passage from Alan Bennett's play A Question of Attribution, which examines some of the issues that will be discussed in the debate.

Speakers: James Naughtie & Dr David Starkey (among others)
