The Documentary Photography Archive at Greater Manchester County Record Office comprises over 100,000 photographs. The bulk was copied from people's family photograph albums; other collections include photographic societies and commissions of professional photographers. This project aimed to convert the paper catalogues of the archive to electronic format and have them mounted on the Access to Archives (A2A) website to make them more accessible, to create a series of online galleries on Greater Manchester County Record office's website by digitising selections of the photographs, and to hold an exhibition of the work of the Documentary Photography Archive at Greater Manchester county Record Office.
Outcomes
Over 11,000 pages of catalogues were mounted on to the A2A website. 11 galleries containing over 1,000 photographs were put on to Greater Manchester County Record Office's website, and Granada Television featured the exhibition at the office. One of the commissioned photographers created a DVD from his work on Afro Caribbean Youth in Moss Side.
