Archive Ambassadors

Organisation: West Yorkshire Archive Service

Grant Award: Your Heritage (£49,000)

The project created a community access point in an accessible location providing locally relevant materials from the West Yorkshire Archive Service. Plus creating an online database to be used as a research aid by the community. Based in Crossgates Library, the East Leeds Heritage Centre will be accredited by West Yorkshire Archive Service and run by volunteers from the East Leeds History and Archaeology Society. Outreach events will engage the community, promote the centre to new users, and support lifelong learning, giving local people a better community understanding and an increased sense of pride.

Outcomes

Materials are now available in the East Leeds Heritage Centre and have been used in a series of well received family history workshops. Work on a local history research project is also underway with volunteers sourcing materials they feel to be most relevant.
