NWRAC: North West Regional Archives Council

NWRAC represents the interests of the archive community in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. There are over 40 major archive services in the region with another 100 smaller services and many more archival collections in museums, libraries and other organisations. These archive services are managed by a variety of organisations including local authorities, businesses and academic institutions. Over 100,000 people visit NW archive services each year, making many more enquiries by post, email and telephone.

NWRAC has worked to establish a flexible strategic framework which will further the co-operative development of the region's archives, for the benefit of all. Details of this framework can be found in The Regional Archive Strategy.

The NWRAC, has remained a body distinct from the NW Museums Libraries and Archives Council, and while the two bodies aim to work in a close and co-ordinated fashion, the NWRAC is currently working on producing its own Archive Policy for the region.
